Knockhill BSB: Byrne takes race two victory

Shane Byrne has taken the second race victory at Knockhill, with the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider doing his best to hold off race one winner Ryuichi Kiyonari for almost the entire 30 lap battle. Byrne was able to lead from the pole position, and only mistakes from Kiyonari that dropped him back and left him with work to do not once but twice prevented a last lap showdown.

With both riders running at lap record pace, it meant the leading duo were some six seconds clear of third at the flag, with an injured Chris Walker showing excellent form on the Lloyds British GBmoto Kawasaki to take his second podium of the year.

In an early battle with Stuart Easton, Walker was able to pass the Scotsman before holding off a late charge from Josh Brookes to deny the Australian a podium credit.

Kiyonari said: “I am disappointed that we didn’t win again, but I made some mistakes and it was my fault. Shakey is very fast and when I passed him I knew he would try and pass me again. It was a difficult race but I am happy that I could show that I can still win and have podium. I need to thank my team and I want to go to Brands Hatch now, it is my favourite circuit, and win again. I will keep trying because we can win.”
