Brno World Superbikes: Sofuoglu dominates Supersport

Kenan Sofuoglu showed his World Supersport rivals the way to go in final qualifying when the 22 year old Turk took pole position by a significant 0.567 seconds.

Sofuoglu has been fastest in every session of the weekend, determined to wrap up his first ever World Supersport title as early as possible. The Ten Kate rider is currently 61 points ahead of his closest rival Fabien Foret who had a tough day and finished down in 11th place 1.4 seconds behind.

Second place went to factory Yamaha SSP rider Broc Parkes. Parkes has shown good pace at the Brno circuit and in recent races and will be looking for a repeat of his Misano race where he managed to beat Sofuoglu.

Josh Brookes claimed third place after benefiting from a lap in the tow of Sofuoglu. Brookes who was fastest at the recent Vallelunga test has struggled in Brno and jumped from 13th to the front row during the final session.

Brooke’s Stiggy Honda team-mate, Robin Harms has been on the pace all weekend and took a well deserved fourth to round off the front row of the grid.

Reigning champion Sebastian Charpentier was just 2/10th slower than second place man Broc Parkes, but with the Supersport grid as tight as ever he ended the day in fifth place.

Britain’s Craig Jones dropped to seventh after his provisional front row grid position on Friday, but has shown impressive pace and remains confident for tomorrows 18 lap race.

Jones was called into race control after the final session following an altercation with Italian Simone Sanna on track. The two riders were seen gesticulating at each other following Sanna’s claim that Jones had messed up his fast lap. Race direction chose not to issue any penalty but did tell both riders to behave when they are out on track.
