Jason O’Halloren will partner fellow Aussie Broc Parkes in the factory Yamaha World Supersport team at Brno this weekend. O’Halloren replaces Anthony West who recently quit the team after switching to Kawasaki in MotoGP.
O’Halloren is currently joint leader in the Australian Supersport championship onboard an R6 with just one round of the championship remaining at Eastern Creek. The Yamaha man got his first ride in Europe two weeks ago when he tested for the Yamaha World Supersport team in Vallelunga. He was due to test alongside Britons Tommy Hill who was also in Vallelunga but after confusion with how many bikes the team were able to ride, Hill had to sit out of the test due to his current racing commitments in BSB.
The Aussie is confirmed only for this weekend’s race with Yamaha expected to make an announcement on Monday on who will ride the bike at Brands hatch and for the rest of the season.
Speaking to MCN, O’Halloren said:
“I’m just on the bike this weekend at the moment so we’ll have to see what happens. I’d like to be in this team but we’ll have to see how it goes and see what happens. World Supersport is definitely where I see my future. We’re at the top in Australia right now and for me to get to the next level I need to be racing against faster bikes and better riders.”
