GP Brits bruised but fit to race at Jerez

British rookies Eugene Laverty and Danny Webb will be fit to ride in tomorrow’s Spanish GP despite both suffering crashes today in Jerez.

Irish 250 privateer Laverty was lucky to walk away with nothing more than a few cuts and bruises after he lost control of his Honda exiting Turn Three. His rear wheel touched the grass after running wide and he was high-sided. It was the same place where five-times world 500 champion Mick Doohan crashed in an incident that ended his career.

Laverty said: “It was my mistake. I just ran a bit wide and got the back wheel in the grass.”

Teenager Webb crashed his Honda 125 in this afternoon’s final qualifying session though he too escaped injury.

The 15-year-old fell after a bizarre incident that saw him crash into the back of Dutch team-mate Joey Litjens. Webb was lucky no to aggravate a left hand injury he suffered in a testing crash at Jerez last month.

Team boss Jarno Janssen said: “I think it was a combination of inexperience and him trying so hard to do well on a track he knows.”
