Tommy Hill out of hospital following successful surgery

Tommy Hill has left hospital today (Monday) after a successful operation to repair his broken right femur sustained at the Nurburgring World Supersport race eight days ago.

Racing for the first time in seven months Hill impressed the World Superbike paddock with his immediate pace, but his race was cut short when out of control wild card rider, Arne Tode, overshot turn one and wiped out the 23-year-old Brit.

Hill arrived back in the UK last Monday, but had to wait until Thursday to be operated on. The reason for the delay was that specialist equipment had to be ordered in from Spain, which was where the original rod was fitted at the end of last year following his testing crash at Calafat, Spain. 

At this stage it is unclear how long Hill will be out of action, but due to the seriousness of the injury the period is expected to be at least two months meaning that the rest of his 2008 season could be in jeopardy.

Hill said: “I got out this afternoon and right now I’m feeling pretty sick, but it’s good to be out of there I can tell you.

“I’m already up and about on crutches and the doctor is really happy with the latest x-ray.

“My doctor is already talking about me weight bearing on the leg in the next two weeks so I’m already working on getting some movement back.”
