Brands Hatch British Superbikes: Shane Byrne glad to be back at the front

Shane Byrne was in a relieved mood after taking his fifth pole of the year at Brands Hatch British Superbikes.

Speaking to MCN, Byrne said: “It’s good to be back on top, it seems like it’s been a while.

“I’m obviously really happy, with it being my home circuit as well as the team’s.

“I think people expected me to be on pole because of my form here in the past, but I’m quite surprised.”

Byrne told of how problems on-board his Ducati affected his qualifying: “The lap timer on the bike stuck for one or two laps extra, so I went across the line having done a 45, but the bike said I’d done a 46.1!”

“Then I started to worry.

“I thought I’d be a bit off the pace so I kept pushing and ended up doing a 45.799 so I’m really happy and at the same time surprised!

“It’s been a while since we’ve had a win, so it’d be good to go out with a win under my belt.”

Byrne’s winless streak has stretched to 11 races, his last coming in race one at Mallory Park at the end of June.
