Croft British Superbikes: Shane Byrne looking to wrap-up title

Shane Byrne has said he and his Airwaves Ducati team will be concentrating hard on securing the 2008 BSB championship this weekend at Croft.

Byrne currently leads Tom Sykes in the title standings by 110 points.

With just three rounds left, including Croft, Shane Byrne could secure his second British Superbike title this weekend if he leaves the Yorkshire circuit with at least a 101-point lead.

Ahead of what could be his title winning weekend, Byrne said: “‘I am really looking forward to this weekend; obviously winning the championship at Croft is a possibility, and that would be fantastic, however I and the rest of the Airwaves Ducati team will be focused on the job at hand – which is to get as good a result as possible.

“Croft is not a favourite circuit of mine but I don’t dislike it either; it has not been particularly kind to me in the past but hopefully my luck might change there this year!

“I know I can’t afford to drop more than 10 points to Tom Sykes, so first up we are going to have to work hard to get the Airwaves Ducati to the front and then think about wrapping up the championship after that.”

While Byrne is focussed on taking the title, team-mate Leon Camier is hoping to build on his Cadwell Park performance where he narrowly missed out on the podium in both races.

Before going to the 2.1-mile circuit Camier said: “‘With the progress we made over the weekend at Cadwell Park, I’m feeling really confident heading to Croft.

“We’ve worked hard to make a big step forward with the set-up on the Airwaves Ducati; I also feel that I am riding well so I’m looking forward to racing at the front of the field once again.

“I was disappointed not to have made it on to the podium last time out so I will kick up a gear for the Airwaves Ducati team at Croft.”
