Video: Casey Stoner applauds Valentino Rossi after Jerez drama

This is the moment Casey Stoner sarcastically applauded MotoGP rival Valentino Rossi after the Australian was forced out of last weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez.

The footage was shot from the inside of the first corner at the start of the lap nine, just moments after the Aussie had been the innocent victim of a mistake under braking by nine-times world champion Rossi.

Stoner stood on a perimeter wall waiting for the 32-year-old to begin the ninth lap of the race after Rossi was able to continue having kept the engine of his factory Ducati GP11 running.

As soon as Rossi comes into view, 2007 world champion jumps from the wall and claps Rossi as he comes by.

Stoner had been fighting for a second successive victory for Honda when Rossi lost the front-end of his GP11 in treacherous conditions.

Stoner was unable to restart the race and he was furious at Rossi’s blunder and the lack of help he received from trackside marshals to get his factory Honda RC212V machine running again.

When Rossi later went to apologise in the Repsol Honda garage, Stoner was picked up on TV cameras saying: “Obviously your ambition outweighed your talent.”

Rossi recovered to finish fifth in a crash strewn race won by reigning world champion Jorge Lorenzo.
