LCR Honda looking at 2012 expansion plan

LCR Honda could expand to a two-rider effort in 2012 by running Andrea Dovizioso and rising German star Stefan Bradl.

Lucio Cecchinello is currently working on two separate projects for next season, one which includes continuing as a one-rider effort with current factory Honda rider Dovizioso.

The Italian though is also locked in talks with Bradl’s Viessmann Keifer Moto2 squad about a potential tie-up in 2012.

The Kiefer squad wants to move to MotoGP with Bradl next season by leasing a Honda financed by current sponsors Viessmann.

But Bradl’s team could be run under the LCR umbrella and Cecchinello said: “We respect the teams in the championship, so Mr Kiefer is supported by Viessmann and we wouldn’t feel happy or proud to steal their title sponsor.

“I didn’t approach Viesmmann. They approached us through Honda. We had some conversations during the German Grand Prix and now we need to prepare two different plans. One plan is with one rider and the other with two. I believe that Mr Viessmann would first consider a project where he could be the sole title sponsor and it would be a German team.

“I understand that but we are preparing a project where Andrea is in one livery and Stefan another under the LCR banner. I believe it is important for them to understand what Stefan thinks and what he suggests to them. At the moment they are waiting to understand what Stefan wishes.”
