Valencia MotoGP: Terol last ever 125 GP world champion

1 of 1

Nicolas Terol (Bankia Aspar) is the last ever 125 Grand Prix world champion, as the era of two-stroke draws to a close in Valencia. Terol’s championship win was secured early on when outside title contender Johann Zarco (Avant-AirAsia-Ajo) crashed out of the race on the second lap.

Terol’s team mate Hector Faubel took the lead early on in the race, where he remained until the mid-way point, when rain started to fall on the Spanish circuit leading to Sandro Cortese crashing out of contention for third in the championship at turn four. Danny Webb also crashed out of the race, a disappointing result for the British rider who had started the race from the front of the grid, having secured his first ever GP pole.

Vinales moved up to second and closed on Faubel, before taking the lead with Terol following suit, relegating Faubel to third and starting the battle in earnest for the final 125 GP race win.

Faubel reclaimed second from his team mate, where he stayed until the penultimate lap when Terol took second but couldn’t quite reel in Vinales who took his fourth race win of the season and finished third in the championship behind Zarco.
