British MotoGP: Jorge Lorenzo experiences rare off-day

In a season in which Jorge Lorenzo has only dropped 10-points in the opening five races, his seventh place on the practice timesheets at Silverstone today represented a bad day at the office for the factory Yamaha rider.

Lorenzo was only eighth fastest in wet conditions this morning and seventh in the dry to finish with a best lap of 2.05.488.

That put him 0.697s behind title rival Casey Stoner, who topped the timesheets with a best of 2.04.791.

Lorenzo, who holds a 20-point lead over the Australian going into Sunday’s British Grand Prix, told MCN: “I didn’t feel confident this morning with the rear tyre. I think the electronics weren’t working very well in the rain and in the afternoon I didn’t feel so comfortable with too much wind.

“I didn’t have the best set-up for my riding and to find the confidence. There is no special reason for this result. It was not bad because I didn’t crash but not good because of the position.

“Today I didn’t make a good day but tomorrow will be better if we improve the bike.”
