Valencia MotoGP: Marquez takes astonishing win

1 of 1

2012 Moto2 world champion Marc Marquez rode an incredible to race to win his final race in the class before moving up to MotoGP for 2013.

Marquez was forced to start from last on the grid after colliding with Simone Corsi on Friday, but the Spaniard had moved up to 11th by the end of the first lap.

Aspar rider Nicolas Terol took to the lead at the start of the race and quickly gapped the rest of the field before being caught by Frenchman Julian Simon.

Simon then stretched out a lead ahead of Terol and looked set for his first Moto2 victory before Marquez quickly caught and passed him going into turn one on the final lap.

Brit Gino Rea – who had gone well during morning practice in the wet – spent the majority of his race battling with Marquez and Dominque Aegerter for a potential podium finish before crashing out at the half way point.

Rea remounted to finish 12th behind Andrea Iannone.

It was a disappointing race for the Brits, as both Bradley Smith and Scott Redding struggled in the damp conditions. Both riders finished outside the points in 16th and 22nd respectively.
