Scott Redding fastest in wet conditions at Jerez

British rider Scott Redding showed why he is expected to challenge for the Moto2 world title come rain or shine in 2013 after he set the quickest time on a wet second day of testing action at the Jerez track.

The Marc VDS Racing rider set a best time of 1.55.082 to finish almost 0.3s clear of 2010 Moto2 world champion Toni Elias, who was fastest in the dry on the first day.

Only 19 riders opted to ride in tricky conditions at Jerez, with title favourite Pol Espargaro not bothering to turn a single lap.

Elias set a fastest pace of 1.55.378 to finished 0.181s clear of Dominique Aegerter in third while Mike di Meglio, rain specialist Anthony West and former 125GP world champion Nicolas Terol completed the top six.

Moto3 race winner Danny Kent was 15th on the Tech 3 Racing Mistral 610 machine with a best time of 1.57.484. That was only 0.064s behind teammate Louis Rossi but over 2.4s off Redding’s fastest pace.
