Silverstone Moto2: Redding takes home win!

1 of 1

Scott Redding has taken the win in front of his home fans at Silverstone, dominating for most of the Moto2 race despite a mistake at two thirds distance that forced him to fight for the race at the end.

Redding led off the line, and was able to make a break away as Takaai Nakagami and Thomas Luthi battled for second place behind him.

However, with eight laps remaining, a mistake from Redding allowed Nakagami past, forcing Redding to lead for a number of laps before making it back in front with four laps remaining.

Luthi then closed in on Nakagami, allowing him to get away again as they fought for the number two spot. Trading places numerous times on the last lap, Nakagami was able to make his move and come out ahead at the line.

Tito Rabat, after running with the Luthi/Nakagami battle for a few laps, eventually finished fourth, while Dominic Aegertar was fifth and Redding’s Marc VDS teammmate Mika Kallio was sixth.

It was a disaster of a race for Redding’s main championship rival, with Pol Espargaro finishing back in eighth, behind Johann Zarco.

The day was less fortunate for the other Brits, though, with Danny Kent finishing 18th after a crash in qualifying demoted him down the grid, while Gino Rea crashed out near the end of the race.

Jason O’Halloran, wildcarding as a replacement for the injured Mike de Meglio, finished his debut Moto2 race in 25th.

“That was absolutly amazing. The atmosphere from the crowd was pushing me on and keeping me calm. It was amazing for my championship as well, and I have to thank everyone who’s put anything into me this year.”
