Indianapolis MotoGP: Marquez continues domination with pole

1 of 1

Reigning world champion Marc Marquez got straight back into the swing of things after the summer break by taking pole position in the USA with a best time of 1’31.619.

The Spaniard had a scare early on in the session when he was forced to run onto the grass at the extremely fast turn one, but recovered to set the fastest lap of the weekend.

Marquez will be joined on the front row by Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso and Jorge Lorenzo onboard the factory Yamaha machine.

The second row will be made up of Aleix Espargaro, Valentino Rossi and Pol Espargaro.

MotoGP rookie Scott Redding advanced from Q1 for the first time this year – outperforming his team-mate Alvaro Bautista by a considerable margin.

Redding will start from 11th on the grid ahead of Cal Crutchlow in 12th.

Tech 3 Yamaha rider was the fastest Brit and will start from ninth on the grid. Smith fell heavily at the end of the session and got trapped under his sliding Yamaha M1 machine, but was able to walk away.

Leon Camier, debuting for Nicky Hayden onboard the Drive M7 Aspar Honda RCV1000R, will start from 16th on the grid. Camier set an impressive time to beat championship regulars such as Hector Barbera and Hiroshi Aoyama.
