Marc Marquez explains Brno test crash

Dominant reigning MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez was uninjured in a crash on the opening day of a private Honda test at the Brno circuit in the Czech Republic yesterday (Tuesday).

The opening day of the three-day test had started in warm and sunny conditions but shortly after midday, the Brno track was soaked by torrential downpours.

Both Marquez and Repsol Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa opted to test Bridgestone’s wet weather tyres.

Marquez had a spill though at turn five on a drying track,  but the Spaniard was uninjured and was able to return to the track for further testing when conditions improved later in the day.

Marquez, who has won all nine races so far in 2014, told MCN: “I had a small crash in the rain conditions. The track was not completely wet and it was getting drier and then the front tyre was destroyed. I was not pushing a lot but I entered the corner and if you remember the race in 2011 in Jerez when a lot of riders crashed, it was like that. The front was destroyed and I released the brake and I could feel the front was closing and I tried to save it. I actually managed to save it but then I arrived in the gravel and I crashed.”

Marquez and Pedrosa will be on track today giving their first impressions of the 2015 prototype RC213V, which has been flown in from Japan for a shakedown test.
