TT and Silverstone will continue to work together

TT boss Paul Phillips says that he hopes to continue to work closely with the Silverstone management – even though the date clash between the 2010 TT and the Northants MotoGP race has now been averted.

As part of a package of rescheduled MotoGP dates for next year, the Silverstone race has now been moved from June 6 to June 20, while the TT runs from May 29 to June 12.

Phillips said: “After the original date had been announced, we met with the Silverstone management and made representations to Dorna but accepted it was a done deal. We put initiatives in place to maximise both the TT and Silverstone MotoGP.

“Now there is no date clash, which we’re obviously happy about, but we’re still planning to continue working with Silverstone. We’re continuing with plans to run ‘MotoGP day’ on the Island, with big screen live coverage of the Mugello race, at the back of the TT Grandstand on the Sunday (June 6).

“And, as a follow-up to Valentino Rossi’s visit to the TT this year, we’re also well down the line with plans to bringing some current MotoGP stars to the TT (following the Mugello race).”

That will not only be a big boost to the TT in terms of publicity but will also benefit Silverstone.

Phillips added: “We’re also working on a plan to have some of the 2010 TT race winners doing a lap of honour during the Silverstone MotoGP festival.”
