McCormack to make Killalane debut

Irish Superbike Champion Brian McCormack from Tramore, Waterford, will be making his road racing debut at the 2009 Country Crest Killalane Road Races this weekend but he faces tough opposition from the regular roads men, including Ryan Farquhar.

Great expectations surround Farquhar as he heads to the weekends’ 25th Aniversary Killalane races. He is poised to become the most successful Irish Road Racer ever in the National Championships series.

The legendary Joey Dunlop currently holds the record having amassed the most wins of any racer in the National series but that could all change at Killalane if the lightening-fast Ryan Farquhar maintains his season dominating performance.  He needs only one win to beat Joey’s record of wins on the national road races.

The Martin Finnegan Supporters Club will be bringing the Martin Finnegan Exhibition to the Killalane paddock as part of the 25th celebration organised for this fantastic road racing event.

The exhibition will include memorabilia of Martin’s phenomenal career and many of Martins race bikes, which have been collected by the Club. Entry to the exhibition will be free but the club will happily accept donations towards their continuing support of good causes and sponsorship of pure road racing in 2010 in memory of the ‘Flying Finn’ Martin Finnegan.

A parade of around twenty riders who competed in the very first Killalane road races will also take place. Famous names such as Dennis Todd who appeared on the front cover of the first Killalane programme, Brian Reid, Martin Gallagher, Tony Carton, Sean Leonard, Eric Galbraith, Sean McStay and many more will do a lap of the 3.2 mile circuit on some of the historic machines which they rode during that first event back in 1984.

The 2009 Country Crest Killalane Road Races take place over two days. On Saturday September 12th, roads close 1pm,  and on Sunday September 13th 2009, roads close 10am.
