Only one race at 2011 NW200

Heavy rain, high winds, a bomb scare and finally an oil slick for over a mile of the coast road meant that only one race of the scheduled five on the 2011 North West 200 programme  was run on Saturday.

The day opened with a rain-hit, five-lap Supersport race, won by Alastair Seeley on the Relentless by TAS Suzuki by eight tenths of a second from Cameron Donald on Wilson Craig’s Honda. Bruce Anstey was a lone third with Michael Dunlop, Gary Johnson and William Dunlop completing the top six.

From that moment on the organisers faced a constant battle against the elements, had to clear the paddock after a security alert and were finally defeated in a massive clean-up battle after Ryan Farquhar’s Kawasaki dumped oil from Black Hill to the Juniper chicane.
