This leaves Gino at the top of the championship table, 3 points ahead of Italian Petrucci and 7 in front of Belgian rider Lonbois.

Gino said: “Magny cours went pretty much to plan and we have come out leading the WSB Superstock 600 championship.

“The start of my race didn’t go how I wanted it to, I was a little eager and pushed a bit too much in the first couple of laps, I ended up going backwards to eighth place.

“I regrouped and settled down but was having small problems with my clutch, I made my way back up to the front and finished the race in seond.

“It was perfect for my championship, I lead by 3 points and the final race is Portimao.

“Last year I won there, so I hope I can have the same success and clinch the championship title this year!”
