WSB Imola: Fabrizio sets the pace at Imola

Xerox Ducati man Michel Fabrizio made the most of the single, one hour free practice session at Imola to set the fastest time of the day. The 25 year old Italian was the only man to lap under 1m 50s, but was still over one second slower than his best time from the two day test at the circuit in July.

Spaniard Carlos Checa continued to impress onboard his Ten Kate Honda in second ahead of championship leader Ben Spies in third and Jonathan Rea fourth.

Shane Byrne set the pace early on and could have finished in the top four had he not run through the gravel at the chicane on his final lap. The Sterilgarda Ducati rider ended the day in eighth, one place behind fellow Brit Leon Haslam.

Reigning 250GP world Champion Marco Simoncelli finished the day 1.195 seconds off Fabrizio’s best but found himself down in 12th spot.

Noriyuki Haga made a slow start despite benefitting from a day of testing earlier in the week at Mugello. The Japanese rider ended the day down in 13th place.

Tom Sykes bounced back from a heavy crash in the aborted session earlier in the day to finish 18th. The factory Yamaha man was heavily winded in the crash and underwent x-rays on his right ankle, but confirmed to MCN that he has no serious injuries.
