Phillip Island WSB test: Checa surprise fastest, Haslam third

Spaniard Carlos Checa stole the show on the opening day of the two day pre season test by setting the fastest time onboard his Althea Ducati 1098R. The former Ten Kate Honda rider set a blistering 1m 31.959s best in the afternoon session to finish a significant 0.390 seconds faster than his closets rival Michel Fabrizio.

Leon Haslam put his three day test at the Australian track last year to good use by clocking the fastest time in the morning session before being relegated to third in the afternoon.

Noriyuki Haga was satisfied with his day one performance in fourth ahead of Ten Kate Honda man Jonathan Rea. Shane Byrne made it three Brits in the top six and four Ducati’s in the top six onboard his Althea Ducati.

James Toseland ended his day in 11th with Tom Sykes 13th, Cal Crutchlow in 15th and Leon Camier in 20th spot.
