As reported in MCN three weeks ago, James Toseland will ride for the BMW Motorrad Italia squad in 2011.

The two time WSB champion signed a letter of intent at the final round of the championship at Magny Cours and flew to Italy last week to officially meet the team and sign the contract.

Toseland will be joined by newly crowned Superstock 1000 champion Ayrton Badovini in the new two man team.

Speaking to MCN today, Toseland said: “This year has been a difficult one, but there has also been a lot of positives to take out of it. Before the accident at Monza I had four podiums on the bounce.

“The injuries I had were frustrating because they took longer the heal than I expected.

“I want to take the positives from this year into the new team and progress from there. I’ve got a least two guys working with me from the Xerox Ducati squad, guys who I worked with when I won the championship in 2004 so I know my team is good.

“As a team they’ve got a lot of experience of working with different bikes which I think will be a major strength for us next year.”

Toseland is set to complete two tests before the end of the season. The first one will take place at Portimao at the end of the month with the possibility of a second test at Almeria.
