The factory Yamaha World Superbike team of Marco Melandri and Eugene Laverty will begin their second day of testing at the Aragon Motorland circuit today.

The two riders completed a successful day of testing on Thursday with former MotoGP man Melandri setting the pace ahead of his team mate. Unlike Melandri who has raced the circuit last year in MotoGP onboard the Gresini Honda, it was Laverty’s first time at the 3.32 mile Spanish track.

At the end of day one Melandri held the advantage in terms of lap time after posting a 2.00.1s best with Laverty 0.9s behind with a 2.01.0s lap.

Laverty said: “For a first day at a track it all went well. The track has got a lot of grip but judging by our times it seems to be a little bit slower than when the other WSB guys tested here at the end of last season.”

The last time Laverty was on track he secured an emphatic double win at Monza, beating team-mate Melandri in a thrilling last lap battle in race two.
