Downunder Motorsport Team nearly there

An Australian dream team trying to find a spot in the WSB paddock next year is currently being organised by the vastly experienced former Honda and BMW Crew Chief Tom Larsen and double WSB Champion Troy Corser.

With a deadline looming for applications and the last elements of budget not yet in place the team has now decided to go public with its plans.

“We are trying to establish a two rider Evo World Superbike team, with BMWs,” said Larsen. “BMW have offered their material, an engineer, hospitality, and a great deal of marketing integration for potential title sponsors. That marketing integration is a considerable amount. It is obviously a key element because it means we are able to offer potential partners merchandising, exposure, all the communication that BMW do in terms of Motorsport and WSB. They would get on the official website, etc. That is from the BMW side.”

It is understood that BMW are, however, keeping firm to their new strategy of customer support, meaning that even a team with Troy Corser – a BMW ambassador – at its head will still be a private team, with no straight cash funding from BMW.

Central to the team is the involvement of two times World Champion Troy Corser, and his close links with BMW. Just one thing is stopping them right now.

Troy stated, “Pretty much all we need is some more money to get the project up and running. I think that the involvement of people like Tom and me in the team and my connection to BMW is strong. That means that I think I can bring not only a lot of advice to the team but also the riders, helping them with bike set-up and on the technical side. I would say that these are fairly strong points of our project.”

The team already has use of the old official BMW workshop facility in Germany along with personnel with great experience, plus other technical partners who are already in place.
