Turkey WSS: Sofuoglu battles to home win

Kenan Sofuoglu has taken the win at his home race in Istanbul after a thrilling battle with championship leader Sam Lowes.

The two riders both got good starts, with Sam Lowes taking the early advantage as Sofuoglu got caught up with the second group.

Sofuoglu got clear of the chasing pack and had Lowes firmly in his sights. With just three laps to go Sofuoglu had caught up to Lowes – who could have won the championship had he beaten Sofuoglu.

The pair swapped positions several times a lap in a thrilling finale, with Sofuoglu eventually coming out on top after passing the Yamaha rider at the end of the back straight.

The result means Lowes leads the championship by 49 points with just 50 points left from the two remaining rounds.

Pata Honda rider Michael Van Der Mark completes the podium in third place.
