Can I mix tyres on my VFR750?

1 of 1

Q. I ride a 1997 VFR750, a superb bike. On the front I have a perfect Bridgestone Battlax BT56 with lots of tread left.

My question is, can I replace the worn out BT57 with a new Bridgestone Battlax 021? lots of dealers are telling me to “Buy a new pair”, I would if I had 200 quid to spare…

A. Bridgestone have a customer service division in the UK which you can e-mail at: ukcontactcentre@bridgestone.eu.

Their view is: “You can mix pairs but please be advised that we have not done any mixed pair testing on this bike. If you wish to mix then this will be at your own discretion.

“Having said this, there is no law (of which I am aware of) in the UK that states you have to use ‘approved fitments.’

“As long as the size, load and speed index is equivalent to those on the homologated OE tyres, then legally, you can use anything you like.”

So you should be fine running and 021 with a 56 front. Let us know how you get on.
