Too sexy for my scooter

WITH their classic design and distinctive looks no one could ever accuse Vespas of being visually boring. But just in case they fail to catch the eye of the beautiful people in the West End, you will soon be able to buy your very own designer Vespa.

Nine ET4 50 scooters will be getting face-lifts from some of the names in British fashion to raise money for charity. Vivienne Westwood, Jimmy Choo, Arkadius, Stephen Webster, Agent Provocateur, Joseph, Ozwald Boateng, Amanda Wakeley and Ben de Lisi have all created designs and this summer their ideas will be transferred to the bikes.

Although no descriptions of Arkadius’ ” Prostitution Vespa, ” and Choo’s ” Ode to Varga Girls ” have yet been released, Stephen Webster – the jeweller who created Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s wedding rings – has created a Vespa covered in a trompe l’oeil of green and purple gemstones, with a snake skin seat. Nice!

But as well as big name designers, students at Central Saint Martins College of Fashion and Design will be showing their Vespas, which have been designed as part of their first year curriculum, including the James Dean bike pictured.

The Vespa Collection will be displayed in London later this year and the bikes auctioned off in October in aid of the charity Action on Addiction.
