Making the GSX-R1000 even more special

1 of 1

FRENCH tuning firm West Bike has changed the current GSX-R so much it looks like a completely new bike.

With a retro paintjob and around 170bhp, you know it’s a little different. Combine that with a weight of just 161kg (354lb) it’s clearly very special, too.

The swingarm has been replaced with a single-sided item and the exhaust is now a four-into-one under-seat unit. The front brakes have been replaced with four Beringer discs – two either side – which the firm reckons both improves stopping power and cuts weight, and the fuel injection has been tweaked to aid the search for more power.

If you don’t mind drawing attention to yourself, the firm can convert your GSX-R to the same specifications for £5500, or build you one from scratch for £14,500 including the cost of a new GSX-R.

And it’s not just cutting-edge sports bikes the firm specialises in. If you’ve got a Bandit 1200, West Bike can convert it into a nitrous oxide nutter bike, doubling power to 188bhp for short periods. The firm has yet to set a price for that modification, but reckons it will be between £1500 and £2000, including a paint job as outrageous as the performance.
