Motorists get bike warning at tax time

1 of 1

The BMF has persuaded the Department of Transport to include its own bike awareness leaflet with every road tax renewal notice over the next 12 months.

The leaflet entitles ” Watch Out for Motorcyclists ” was produced by the Government as part of its recent multimedia campaign to highlight bike safety and includes advice to motorists on how they can reduce the number of ” Sorry, I didn’t see you ” type accidents.

It encourages motorists to

*Accept that bikes make quicker progress in heavy traffic and that hostile reaction against them is dangerous.

*Check mirrors regularly.

*Allow more room in wet or greasy conditions

*Take extra care at junctions, especially when turning right.

*Check behind when parked before opening a door.

Do you think the Government’s campaign has made any difference to the way you’re treated by car drivers? What more could it be doing? Click on the link on the right to let us know.
