Scottish protest details

1 of 1

Organiser Gary Thompson has sent MCN the final details of Saturday’s Scottish protest ride:

We have a two- bike police escort all the way in. The Evening News should be running a story tomorrow which should hopefully increase numbers. Chris T has also been busy in Edinburgh posting flyers – cheers Chris for your efforts, also thanks to Craig for producing them.

So far I have two stewards plus me. An additional steward would be welcome – any volunteers?

The route is as last posted: Harthill Services – Newbridge roundabout – Corstorphine Road (past airport and zoo) – Haymarket – Shandwick Place – Lothian Road – Grassmarket – Victoria – George IV Bridge – Chambers St.- S.Bridge – N.Bridge – Waterloo Pl. – Calton Hill.

Form up at Harthill Services from 1000hrs on. Depart Harthill 1200hrs. Arrive Calton Hill 1400hrs.

Rules for the ride: 1) Never more than 2 abreast. 2) Lower speed limit on M/Way is 50mph. 3) Do not pass lead rider. 4) No unnecessary overtaking. 5) Follow Stewards’ directions. 6) RIDE WITHIN THE LAW (remember 2 x police m/cycles to rear)

During the ride I may stop to allow for a re-group – filter through any cars to join-up again. Target speeds will be 50mph for m/way, walking pace in town.

We may have to pause to allow a demo in front of us to clear Lothian Road – follow stewards’ directions.

On dispersal from Calton Hill, disperse in groups of no more than 6, at least 15 secs between groups. Follow Stewards’ directions. I’ll be passing around a petition on the day – keep an eye out and get your name on it.

Let’s have a good turn out, a safe ride and after the meet, a good day – weather forecast is good! See you on Saturday. Gary.

p.s. If there are any learner legals wishing to join in, please direct them to the A8 somewhere just past the Newbridge roundabout and we’ll pick them up there.
