Go Extreme this Sunday

1 of 1

You’re as likely to see proper ice speedway in this country as you are a Ducati 916 trike with a sidecar attached.

While Briggo’s Extreme Races won’t be taking place on the slippery stuff this Sunday, September 15, you’ll you get the chance to see the type of crazy machine they ride – complete with two-inch spikes embedded in the tyres.

It all takes place at Coventry Speedway’s home of Brandon Stadium and features stars like world ice racing champion Per-Olof Serenius.

Serenius is over from Sweden and will be riding his methanol-burning 500cc Jawa around the conventional speedway track. With the spikes lodging firmly into the shale surface, Serenius is certain to be the fastest man ever around the 300-metre oval.

There are a host of other events, including veteran and modern speedway races, a bike demolition derby (should be fun), sidecars, quads and a Japanese track racing bike. The MCN Stunt Roadshow’s freestyle jumpers will also be putting in an appearance.

The meeting is organised by four-times world speedway champion Barry Briggs.

Tickets are just £12 for adults, £6 for children and senior citizens. To get to Brandon Stadium, follow signs for Binley Woods on the A428, near its junction with the A46. For more details call: 02476-524395.
