Pensioner on 8000-mile charity ride

1 of 1

Pensioner Ted Hellewell will be riding 8000 miles across Canada in May.

Hellewell, 67, from Cardiff, is attempting the solo trip to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care in memory of his late wife Dorothy. He’ll be mounted on a BMW R1150RT when he leaves Vancouver, British Columbia, on May 1 and he intends to finish the trip in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

He’s held a bike licence since 1957, and owned bikes including a Triumph Trophy TR6, Vincent Rapide, and a Honda CBR1000.

” Since my early 20’s I have always hoped I might have the opportunity to ride across Canada from the Pacific to the Atlantic. Dorothy was also a keen biker so I felt it would be a fine tribute to her, ” said Ted.

To support Ted’s Trans-Canada Travels, phone Marie Curie’s Lisa Buckley on 01873-3030011.
