U.S. Wings recalled. UK next?

Honda in the US have contacted every American owner of Gold Wing GL1800’s to offer to fit a replacement Engine Control Module.

Th swap is needed due to high engine coolant temperatures when the bike ridden at slow speeds in hot weather. A letter, sent by Honda Vice President Ray Blank, explains a replacement ECM with a new ignition mapping will be fitted, free of charge by local dealers.

The new unit will also be fitted as standard on the 2004 Gold Wing.

Hot weather shouldn’t be quite such a problem in the UK, but Honda UK are investigating, particularly as Gold Wings are often used for foreign travel.

” We’re looking into it and anything that would be relevant to conditions in this country will be done, ” said Honda UK’s Dave Hancock.
