Budget: Brown leaves us alone

1 of 1

Chancellor Gordon Brown has made it a no-change Budget for bikes.

Speaking in the Commons today (March 17), he announced he is freezing road tax at present levels and keeping the insurance premium tax at the same rate.

There’s no change for levies on fuel either. But what ‘no change’ also means is there is no specific encouragement for two wheels, even after the advantages of bikes in beating traffic have been so clearly demonstrated by Congestion Charging in London.

Bikes go free in the Congestion Charge zone and traffic speeds have risen and accident rates fallen.
