Who needs carbon-fibre, magnesium and titanium when you can have wickerwork?

The 1908 Rex pictured here, with its basket-style sidecar, went for £18,275 – nearly twice the estimate in an auction of museum pieces from the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu

The H&H Classic Auctions sale in Buxton, included 10 bikes from Beaulieu. A 1913 Ariel 3½hp went for £11,825 – more than three times the top estimate, while Beaulieu’s 1903 Werner Motorcyclette fetched £16,125.

A 1987 Vespa PX125 Model T5 with just nine miles on the clock went for £3,440.
