Harley sets drag records

A Harley-Davidson V-Rod drag racer has entered the record books in America by achieving the first six-second run in National Hod Rod Association history, with a new best top speed of 197.45mph in the Pro Stock class.

The record was set by 21-year-old Andrew Hines at the opening round at the Gainsville Raceway in Florida, with a 6.991 second time. Hines scooped a special $10,000 bonus for the achievement, before posting his record top speed. It was then equalled by fellow V-Rod racer Gary Tonglet.

Despite the record-breaking performance in qualifying, Hines was eliminated after reacting too quickly to the lights, and Tonglet suffered technical problems.
