Bikes hit hardest by toll

1 of 1

The charge for riders to use the M6 toll is going up out of all proportion.

Bikes – the vehicles which cause least damage to roads – are to be charged the steepest increase when the M6 road toll brings in its price rise on June 14.

Currently riders pay £2 during the day and £1 at night. But a 50p increase kicks in at 6am that morning – a hike of 50% at night and 25% during the day for us.

The same 50p increase is being implemented across the board – which means HGV drivers – who currently only pay £6 during the day and £5 at night – face a much less dramatic increase. Their rise is just over 8 per cent during the day and 10 per cent at night.

The road links junction four of the M6 at with junction 11.

The Dartford Crossing is free for bikes. We think the M6 toll should be too.
