Watch out if you are heading to Silverstone this weekend for the British round of the World Superbike championship, the police will be out in force.

Northants police has issued a warning to all riders that they will be monitoring all the main routes in to the event with both camera vans and police bikes.

The main roads being covered by the operation will be the A5 Watling Street, Potterspury (50mph speed limit), the A43 between A5 and Brackley Road, Towcester (70mph speed limit) and the A43 dual carriageway, near the Green Man public house (70mph speed limit).

Sergeant Jon Hodgson, of Northamptonshire’s Safety Camera Team, said: “We are letting people know in advance that officers will be carrying out speed enforcement from Safety Camera vans as well as from marked police motorbikes so everyone is reminded to keep speeds down on all roads, or risk being caught. Our prime aim is to help ensure that everyone travelling to and from this event has a safe journey.”

The police claims the three main factors leading to motorcycle accidents last year were excessive or inapporpriate speed, dsregard for road signs and markings, or rider inexperience. From 93 killed and serious injury collisions last year, 76 involved more than one vehicle.
