MCN Party election result

MCN changed the political landscape on Thursday night (May 5), drawing attention to biking issues on the most public platform by standing for election.

MCN Editor Marc Potter stood as a candidate in Peterborough and made a huge step forward in highlighting biking issues to the nation. We may not have bagged a huge haul of votes but we did put biking’s cause in the media spotlight

Potter spent the night being interviewed by the local and national media, making appearances on everything from ITV to BBC Radio Lincolnshire and highlighting the key elements of our campaign every time.

Our manifesto drew attention from all the leading parties and succeeded in bringing biking issues in to their sights.

Our key aims included improving bike safety with changes to the bike and car tests, allowing bikes to use bus lanes, ensuring that speed cameras are only used to save lives and not to make money, encouraging the use of bikes to beat congestion, and making Britain’s bike industry great again.

Potter was pleased with how the campaign went: “The idea behind the MCN Party was to give publicity to motorcyclist’s rights. And we’ve done that. Not only have all the major parties’ leaders written to us and made promises we’re going to hold them to, we’ve also had huge publicity in the national media. We’ll keep on fighting for the rights of British motorcyclists.”

The evening was slightly overshadowed by the refusal of the police to allow the MCN babes in to the counting room. Apparently there was the chance that the lycra clad girls might distract the officials counting the votes.
