Three bikes once owned by Steve McQueen went under the hammer on Saturday raising more than £165,000.

The most expensive from his haul was his 1934 Indian Sport Scout, a 750cc V-twin that was the pride of McQueen’s collection of Indians. It took £81,000 at the sale in Los Angeles.

A 1920 Indian Powerplus “Daytona” race bike, powered by a 990cc twin, went for £68,000 at the sale, while the bargain of the bunch was a 1929 Harley-Davidson Model B.

Despite being owned and ridden by McQueen, the 500cc single went for just £16,700, which was £300 less than somebody paid for a penknife he owned at the same sale.
