82mph wheelie rider makes this his Facebook picture

You might expect the rider responsible for this 82mph wheelie in a 30mph zone to want as few people as possible to see the incriminating image.

But instead 22-year-old Steve Skilton appears to be proud of the photo – he has chosen it as his profile picture on Facebook.

It means it’s the main photo he wants to represent to the world through the social networking website. In case there is any doubt over the message he wants to send out, the words ‘reckless rider’ appear along the bottom of the picture.

Skilton appears to have photographed a TV screen at the precise moment his wheelie was shown along with the words during a news report.

The scaffolder from Southampton was given an 18-month ban and £600 fine by magistrates after facial recognition techniques were used to link him to this and other speed camera photos.

Under a picture of him posing on his bike on his Facebook page, one of Skilton’s friends has commented: “Bike £4000, leathers and helmet £600, 34 points and 18-month ban for being a silly, silly boy priceless.”

Motorcyclenews.com users were enraged by Skilton’s actions after MCN revealed details of the case. ‘Pillock’ and ‘idiot’ were among the nicer descriptions found for him by comment posters.
