Crusader 704

1 of 1

After 6 years of use my 1999 single speed needed a refurb, the english winters had taken their toll on the chrome and the paint had chips and marks.

It started off to fit the “02” updated inverted forks to give a better “feel” of the road, then there was Tim from MN in the states who does an inboard shocker arrangement and a stiffer swinging arm to give a clean look when the bike is on its stand.

I shipped the bike over in early 07 and the work started. By then things were getting a little out of hand, I had contacted my now friend Bill Cannon @ Awesome Engines He has been big into Drag Motors since the early days.

We had spoke at length about the spec for a 704 Donovan that would sit nicely in a Boss frame, my main aim was to convince Bill that I didn’t really want 2500 BHP alcohol burning motor, if anyone was doing the alcohol it would be me.

So we ended up with 94 oct pump gas motor giving adequate HP.

Feb 08 my son Paul and I took a road trip from JFK to Delaware to see the motor on the dyno, then haul it up to MN in a van, through Chicago at 1am in a blizzard, which we saw some of the dumbest and dangerous driving with 18 wheelers moving at +70mph on packed snow.

Later that day we met Tim again and went over the spec for the bike getting the foot pegs in the right position c’os on the earlier bikes there fixed also the angle of the handle bars etc.

My existing gas tank would be stretched to get the taller block between the two sides of it. Lots of other tweeks, frenched lights , caliper on the drive belt etc.

Another guy I know who has a unit about 5 miles from Tim is Aaron, X-treme Paints, he has done some paint for me before, so I spent a few hours initially with him discussing the George and Dragon paint scheme.

Out of that came an Americans view on an English legend, guided by myself and thoughts down at the local.

My wife, Son and myself rode over to the Annual Boss Hoss International Rally in Hasselfelde, Germany this June and met up with Andy and Petra again who run Boss Hoss DE.Cologne.

Between them they look after Boss Hoss interests in Europe and the rest of the world.

Some people don’t get the attraction of a Boss Hoss, but if you get the bug your hooked

Bikes on Youtube, “England Boss Hoss Bike” but can’t get it to submit. Chris
