Classic bikes destroyed

Five classic bikes were wrecked in a Swindon house fire last Saturday.

Among the bikes lost was a 1958 600cc Norton Dominator 99, shown here after winning the Best Post War Machine at the Cassington Bike Night.

The bikes’ owner, Ron Jennings, is a lifelong enthusiast. “Bikes are his pride and joy,” said his son-in-law.

The 71-year-old was burnt on his arms and face. He is expected to leave hospital today (Tuesday the 13th).

Luckily, his injuries were only “superficial”, Fire Station manager Gareth Evans reported.

He continued: “we are still investigating the cause of the fire but we believe it to be accidental.”

Fire-fighters used foam to extinguish the fire, which could be seen from the M4. Details of the other bikes are unavailable.
