Editor's picks: Ducati Multistrada 1000

The Ducati Multistrada 1000 was one of the firm’s boldest projects. Launched in 2003, the touring-sportster hybrid is the do-it-all Ducati that can carve lines through corners halfway through 3000-mile European adventures.

The Ducati Multistrada 1000DS is a bold attempt at tourer/town/sportster hybrid motorcycle and mostly hits the mark. Whacky styling masks a truly versatile motorcycle mixed with Italian style.

Low screen, smallish tank and limited performance from Ducati Multistrada 1000DS’ air-cooled two-valve engine are only slight niggles.

The Ducati Multistrada 1000DS is tall yet assured with zestful steering, although its not quite sharp and sophisticated enough to be a true sportster motorcycle. As a touring motorcycle it’s roomy and pleasant.

This motorcycle is a typical Ducati in it’s build. In other words the Ducati Multistrada 1000DS is better than Ducatis used to be, deep paint and suchlike but there’s still and air of fragility and they need to be pampered more than most motorcycles from Japan.

No major problems but keep your Ducati Multistrada 1000DS clean and well serviced.
