New Harley Street 750 goes ice racing

Harley’s all-new entry level V-twin – the Street – has been turned into an ice racer to star in this week’s Winter X Games.

The American manufacturer is sponsoring this week’s extreme sports event in Aspen, Colorado and as part of the deal, and to boost publicity both for the new bike and the event, a special one-off ice race is to take place on specially kitted Street 750s ridden by a star-studded line-up of US flat track racers.

Amoing those taking part on the studded-tyred bikes are Brad Baker, the current AMA Pro Grand National Champion who recently raced against MotoGP world champ Marc Marquez in the Superprestigio event in Barcelona. Also taking part are 2012 AMA Pro Grand National Champion Jared Mees and his wife Nichole Mees, who is an AMA Pro flat track racer as well.

“The attitude and capabilities of the Street were influenced by thousands of young adults in cities around the world,” said Dino Bernacchi, Harley’s Director of North American Marketing Communications. “So while we think ice racing is hardcore, it’s only fitting that Harley-Davidson is having extreme sports fans around the world help decide the X Games fate of the sport.”
