Valentino Rossi honoured by British Racing Drivers’ Club

The British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC), have announced that Valentino Rossi is to become an Honorary Member and, for the first time in its history, the club are awarding this status based solely on achievements in motorcycling.

The club, which also owns Silverstone circuit, boasts a members list which is like reading a who’s who of the car-racing world. While there are others known for motorcycling within the association, they have gained integration based on their achievements on four wheels, not two.

Rossi commented: “I am very honoured to have been invited to become an Honorary Member of the British Racing Drivers’ Club. I know it’s very difficult to become a member of this exclusive club, there are very selective criteria. There is no rider in the BRDC, I will be the first and for this I am even more honoured.”

President of the BRDC Derek Warwick added: “Membership of the BRDC is the greatest honour in British motor racing and I speak on behalf of everyone at the Club when I say that we are proud, privileged and honoured that Valentino Rossi has accepted this membership.”

Rossi will be officially presented with his membership by Derek Warwick at the Silverstone round of MotoGP, which takes place over the weekend of August 28-30.
