Former race Sean Emmett has been jailed for 12 weeks for assaulting his girlfriend after an afternoon of heavy drinking at a pub in Surrey because he didn’t like the way she was eating.

Emmett and girlfriend of two years Lana Saoud had been drinking in a West Molesey pub in January when the pair fell out as they were eating after getting home. Emmett then grabbed her around the neck and hit her in the face because of the way she was eating did not agree with him.

Emmett’s jailing is the latest in a turbulent few years for the former racer whose new wife fell to her death from their honeymoon hotel in Dubai just days after they were married. He was then forced to stay in the country for nearly 18 months after having his passport confiscated while police investigated.

A Domestic Violence Protection Order (DVPO) was then imposed on Emmett in October 2014 a confrontation with a woman in a pub. He was later jailed for 28 days for breaching this order.

Prosecutor Carole Fern said they stopped at the Golden Fryer takeaway to buy dinner before going back to a house they were staying at.

She said: “They were eating dinner, she was eating quickly as she was hungry. They had a difference of opinion about her manner of eating. She said he grabbed her around the neck with one hand and hit her in the face.”

The court was told she was hit at least once causing her nose to bleed.

Fern added: “He does say she slapped him first and in her statement she does say she slapped him.

“She’s injured now and she’s on the street. It’s about 8.30 or 9 in the evening, while this is happening the defendant goes back to the pub.”
