Honda to recall airbag Gold Wings in US

1 of 1

Honda may be recalling Honda Gold Wing models fitted with airbags as part of a massive global recall of vehicles to replace potentially dangerous Takata airbags.

The Gold Wing was available with an airbag system between 2006 and 2010 and its thought around 2700 motorcycles will be affected. At the moment an official recall has been issued in America but UK authorites are still waiting to hear what will happen once further investigation and information is received. It’s not been classified as a recall in the UK yet and owners will be contacted soon.

A Honda UK statement reads: “After receiving the Defect Information Reports from the airbag inflator supplier, Takata, Honda has been investigating the potential impact on products in the European market.  We will notify authorities and provide further details once this investigation has been completed.”

Honda is reported to have said there have been no reported failures of the airbags on bikes so far but there are thought to be at least 10 deaths directly attributed to accidents involving cars and incorrectly inflating airbags.
