What every Saturday needs: This week in motorcycle news looked a bit like this…

Supersized Street Triple out soon

Triumph look set to unveil the new Street Triple next week, a bike MCN has spied many times in development, and which we believe will get a capacity boost to 765cc. A video teaser on Triumph’s YouTube account shows a naked roadster being abused in a disused warehouse, and points to a launch date of January 10, while claiming the ‘Street’ will never be the same again. Details are hard to see, but we can make out the full LCD dash and the Speed Triple-esque headlamps.

Dougie’s wheelie attempt on TV

Red Bull have just released a brilliant behind-the-scenes documentary of Dougie Lampkin wheelieing a modified Vertigo trials bike around the 37.73-mile Isle of Man TT course. You get to see the build-up to the record attempt, and duck through the family garage doors to peek at the Lampkin dynasty. It’s an emotive and spell binding bit of cinema –and you can watch it now for free at www.redbull.tv

Happy Monday’s electric offering

California-based Monday Motorcycles have brought the moped into the 21st century, with the electric M-1. It has two riding modes, Economy and Sport. In Economy mode top speed is restricted to just 20mph allowing a 50-mile range. In Sport mode the top speed doubles to 40mph, but range drops to 20-30 miles. But you can pedal if you run out of juice and the M-1 makes use of regenerative braking to top up the battery whenever you brake.

Triumph posts massive profits

It’s been a cracking year for Triumph, who have just posted financial results for June 2015-June 2016, revealing a £56.3m increase in turnover, and profits of £16.6m (up 90.8%), thanks largely to a 4.5% increase in bikes produced to total 56,253. Impressive stuff. Read the full story here.

New learner laws…

The Government are proposing some rather sensible changes to the licensing system to improve the quality of motorcycle training. The driving force is safety, but the proposals will also streamline CBT and full licence access while also ensuring that your training school is up to scratch. Have your say, before February 17 on the DVLA’s website

Bag a Bimota Rep

Anyone hoping to lay their hands on an original Bimota HB1 will need patience and a big wallet, but if you’ve got the latter and are devoid of the former, you might want to give Rob at Husky Res orations, New York, a call. He’s building replicas, and they are pure unadulterated bike porn. You can opt for authentic white, or bare carbon fibre.

Save cash on anti-rust service

Lind Motorrad have cut the price of their corrosion protection service. Now costing just £75 including VAT (down from £150), the service sees Lind technicians steam clean your bike before treating it to a professional- grade application of ACF50, which will help keep your bike rust-free for up to 12 months. www.lindmotorrad.co.uk

Sena comms get even cleverer

Intercom company Sena have announced their forthcoming range of bike-to-bike systems will be even smarter than before. The new 30K system, expected in mid 2017, allows up to 16 riders to communicate over a range of 1.2 miles. The 30K also features Bluetooth for device connectivity, and a built-in FM radio. www.sena.com

V-Strom 650s recalled

Suzuki North America have issued a recall for 8600 DL650 V-Stroms over fears a potential wiring fault could cause the engine to cut out. The issue is said to affect the alternator in bikes built between 2011 and 2015. Suzuki GB were unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.
